Chief Enologist / Chief Executive, Marchesi Antinori


Renzo Cotarella is the Chief Enologist and Chief Executive of Marchesi Antinori, responsible for overseeing the vineyards and winemaking for its estates in Italy and California, as well as for its joint venture partnerships in Chile and the US. He works closely with Wine Estate Manager Glenn Salva and Winemaker Melissa Apter on both vineyard and wine production aspects for Antica Napa Valley.

Cotarella believes making great wine requires constant trial and error from innovation in both the vineyard and the winery, a belief cultivated during his experiences with the Antinori family’s historic and highly regarded estates in Tuscany and Umbria.

Raised in a winemaking family in Montelrubiaglio, Renzo graduated from the University of Perugia with a degree in Agricultural Sciences. Following graduation, he worked part time overseeing the first plantings of Chardonnay at Castello della Sala in Umbria before becoming its winemaker in 1981. Renzo was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2001.


GlennGlenn C. Salva
Wine Estate Manager

Glenn C. Salva brings more than 29 years of Napa Valley winegrowing experience to his work as Wine Estate Manager for Antica Napa Valley, where he is responsible for all winegrowing activities. Glenn assumed the role in 2002 and works to ensure a harmonious blend of Tuscan philosophy and Californian style in the wine and vineyard DNA.

In addition to his Antica Napa Valley responsibilities, Glenn also works with other Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates joint wine ventures in the Red Mountain region of Washington State, as well as the iconic Stag’s Leap Winery Cellars, also located in Napa Valley.

Glenn earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, where he majored in Viticulture.



Travis ATravis Awe
Cellar Master

Travis Awe started his wine career with a harvest internship at Antica Napa Valley, and after working for wineries in two hemispheres, has come full circle with his return to Antica as its Cellar Master.

While Travis graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Psychology, “I had many friends in the wine program at Davis, and through taking part in blind tastings and sensory analysis classes with them I discovered my love for wine.” He ultimately chose to pursue a career in wine.

His work experience in Napa Valley and New Zealand reinforced what he had learned during his internship: that attention to detail produces the best wines. “Here at Antica, the components to make great wines exist in full: a majestic mountain location, perfect climate, terroir that comes through in the glass, and the depth and breadth of knowledge that comes from the Antinori family who has crafted wine for 26 generations.”

Travis is accountable for the execution of all cellar activities, from the receiving of the grapes through bottling, guaranteeing that Antica wine production is under the highest level of quality with impeccable attention to detail.



Kim Wiss

Estate Chef/Consumer and Trade Manager

Kim Wiss combines her love of wine and food with her extensive background in marketing and hospitality working for Antica Napa Valley.

Raised in New Orleans, she grew up with a deep understanding of the pleasure that good food can bring. So it was natural that her career began in the bustling restaurant industry of her hometown. But during a vacation to Napa Valley, she and her husband, Barry, fell in love with wine country’s fine wine and food scene, and uprooted to move here. Kim parlayed her experience into key roles in hospitality management for several wineries before joining the Napa Valley Vintners, first as the international marketing manager, then as  marketing director, responsible for marketing and promoting the Napa Valley appellation and the wines of the organization’s 300+ members.

After several years in wine marketing, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a chef, attending the Napa Valley Cooking School. After graduating with honors as class valedictorian, she trained under the tutelage of Chef Luciano Ghinassi at the world-renowned Buca Lapi, located in the Palazzo Antinori in Florence. After working in Tuscany for four months, Kim returned to Napa Valley to join Antica Napa Valley as its estate chef and head of its consumer and trade division.

We invite you to enjoy a private tour and tasting at our estate in the breathtaking eastern mountains of Napa Valley. We accept appointments for groups of up to 8 people at 10 a.m. or at 3 p.m. Monday – Friday, and on Saturdays during the summer. After the tour of the estate and winery, sit down for a tasting of Antica Napa Valley's current releases in our beautiful guest room, which offers expansive views of the estate. Experience lasts approximately 90 minutes.
